Second Grade Rocks!!
Can you believe that summer is over?? I hope you had an enjoyable, memory filled time with your family. Lots of exciting, fun filled learning is ahead for your child this school year in second grade!!
Open House is this Thursday from 6-8. Hopefully I'll see you then!
Just a reminder, if your child has a fever, or is contagious, PLEASE keep them home. The fever is a sign of a contagious virus. The other children and I don't want to catch those germs, especially during this time of the year! Your child needs to be fever free for 24 hours- without medicine- before they can come back to school. Thank you for your support!!!
The Read-A-Thon sheet went home last week. Please fill it out every night. This is REQUIRED homework.
Please remember we are a nut free snack zone. Snacks should be one or two quick healthy items. Please remember to pack all needed utensils and napkins. Fresh cut fruit, fresh vegetables, apple sauce pouches, yogurt and cheese and crackers are some great choices. The children typically get about 10 minutes for snack. We do not have snack on 1/2 days.
Please pack an extra set of clothing (undies and socks included) in a gallon sized plastic bag in the bottom of your child's backpack. Accidents happen in first grade all the time. Milk spills, food spills and bathroom accidents are all very typical. The children are never denied going to the bathroom while they are in my classroom. In fact, they don't even have to ask. If the bathroom pass is by the door, all the children have to do is sign out, put the pass by their seat and scoot to the restroom. I had a talk with the children about making sure to listen to their bodies, even if they're having fun doing an activity, they need to stop and use the restroom. The only time I ask a child to wait, is if I am giving important instructions. I did tell them though, if it is an emergency, to scoot to the restroom. It's a work in progress, and nothing to worry about.
Has your child told you about the password or Word of the Day? (aka~ WOD) Typically every day of the week except Friday, the children will have a word of the day that they will see around the room and school. The words come from the 100 sight word list that first graders need to know. I thought this would be a fun way to help children recognize, read and hopefully spell these important sight words. I know there are many students who can already read these words. That is why I am having those children learn how to spell them, consistently, in their writing.
Thank you for all of the work that you do with your children at home. I am looking forward to working as a team with you to help your child flourish!
